I've seen a number of car cleaning cars are available - up to around $200.00 in price. Does anyone out there have one? What do you recommend? My layout is on my porch and needs frequent cleaning. I want something that really does the job.
My experience is that they all have limited value. I have gone back to using my hand and a cloth with some form of cleaner. On the subject of cleaners, there is an unending list. Lionel recommends Goo-Gone and MTH recommends methanol (not isopropyl). However the Goo-Gone has an adverse effect on traction tires and the alcohol has an adverse effect on tubular track platingbwhich is most common in ogauge. It is odd to me that in a hobby such as ogauge with all the high-powered professionals, we can't settle on a cleaner that is readily available and cheap.
